Growing out of an initiative by faculty and students researching the benefits of learning in nature, Royal Roads has announced plans to add an outdoor classroom to campus in 2017.
This classroom will not only enrich the learning experience of students today and tomorrow, it will celebrate a unique sense of place: fascinating Indigenous culture, early British Columbia history, stunning architecture and gardens, intriguing military heritage, and 21st century study. With dedicated outdoor classroom space, we will deepen the life-changing connection between nature, human well-being and our capacity for learning.
The Terry Power Strategic and Advanced International Studies Outdoor Classroom
Prof. Power is well-known for his love of Socratic learning methods and for moving his classes out of doors when he can. As his retirement gift to Royal Roads, Terry will be making a lead donation of $50,000 to bring the outdoor classroom to life and Royal Roads University will match his generous gift. To complete the journey and to truly make this a RRU family initiative, Terry has invited alumni to help make his vision a reality.
